Background:
The original naturally aspirated engine in my Supra was no longer cutting it. Naturally aspirated engines have their advantages, though for this application I desired none of them. The turbocharged counterpart adds a significant amount of power to the engine with fuel economy as the major drawback. This particular engine was remanufactured using high performance parts. Components of the fuel system, air intake, exhaust, turbocharger, cooling system, and engine management system were upgraded to high performance variants. I decided to completely rebuild the engine from the ground up as both a learning experience and to have the advantage of knowing I had a high quality and properly assembled engine. |
Results:
- Engine was installed and operated without any problems.
- Car was placed on dynamometer and produced 390 ft/lbs of torque to the wheels, an approximate 50% increase over its factory configuration.
